Community Development

he Community Development Department is responsible for:

  • long-term physical planning functions
  • short-term physical planning
    • review of new development and redevelopment to ensure that they meet Zoning Code requirements
    • review of signs (both permanent and temporary) 
    • review of fences 
    • review of occupancy permits 
    • review of other types of applications, such as variance requests and conditional use permits 
  • ensuring that existing development remains compliant with the Zoning Code
  • providing  technical guidance to the Zoning Board of Appeals, Planning Commission, and the City Council
  • administration of various state and federal grant programs
  • conducting special studies including census and demographic data
  • revising development codes
