Community Development
The mission of the Community Development Department is to enhance the community's safety, welfare, quality of life, and economic development opportunities through long-range planning, development review, permitting and inspection, and administration of programs related to neighborhood preservation and affordable housing. The Community Development Department includes multiple divisions, including Building Inspection, Planning & Zoning, Code Enforcement, and Community/Economic Development.
Building Inspection is responsible for plan review, permitting, and inspection of 1, 2, and 3 unit residences as well as accessory structures. This division is also responsible for building safety and enforcement, including actions to remove dangerous conditions and buildings.
Planning and Zoning ensures the orderly and efficient development of the City in accordance with the Comprehensive Plan, Zoning Code, and Subdivision Regulations. This division leads multi-department review and approval for commercial and industrial site development and re-use of existing commercial and industrial spaces.
Code Enforcement works to improve the quality of life in the City through awareness, education and enforcement of the various property maintenance regulations. Code Enforcement activities are intended to maintain minimum health and safety standards on private property.
