Shelby County Regional Planning Commission, in coordination with the City of Sidney / Shelby County CHIP grant, is offering funds through the Lead Safe Ohio Program, which provides assistance to eliminate lead in windows, doors and siding for residents who reside within the limits of Shelby County. The program dollars may also be used to replace lead water service lines and interior lead-based plumbing.
Properties eligible for program grant funding must meet the following requirements:
- Applicant’s name must be on the deed
- Current homeowner's insurance
- Current on mortgage
- Current on property tax payments
- Household Income below 80% of median income
- Home was built before 1978
- Cannot be on land contract or a life estate
Lead can affect children's brains and developing nervous systems, causing reduced IQ, learning disabilities, and behavior problems. Lead is also harmful to adults.
The Lead Safe Ohio program was established in partnership with the 134th Ohio General Assembly, which funded the program in House Bill 45 with $150 million in American Rescue Plan Act funds. The program is administered by the Department of Development, in coordination with the Ohio Department of Health.
