At approximately 10:05 p.m. on June 9, 2025, the Sidney Department of Fire & Emergency Services responded to a report of a residential structure fire at 989 Wagner Avenue.
Upon arrival, fire crews observed smoke showing from the eaves of a single-story, single-family home. Fire attack and search and rescue operations were initiated simultaneously. The fire was quickly located and extinguished. A primary and secondary search confirmed that no occupants were inside the residence at the time of the incident.
The homeowner later advised that the residence was currently under renovation.

- Determined to be unintentional, resulting from the misuse of tea-cup candles
During the incident, off-duty staff were recalled to provide coverage at the fire station. Crews also responded to an additional medical call during the same time frame.
The Sidney Police Department assisted on scene and helped knock down portions of the fire using a portable extinguisher prior to fire department arrival.
