[ARCHIVED] Ten Week Citizens Police Academy to be Held

The Sidney Police Department is conducting a Citizens Police Academy in order to enhance the communication between the residents of Sidney, and the police who serve them. The program is designed to give the citizens of Sidney an overview of the how the department operates, and an in-depth view of its policies. 

This free course will be held on ten consecutive Wednesdays from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. starting February 21, 2024, and ending April 24, 2024. The course will take place in the Sidney Police Department Training room located at 234 W. Court Street.

Topics to be covered include:

  • Cyber crime
  • Search & Seizure
  • Law Enforcement Technology
  • Fraud & Scams
  • Domestic violence
  • Active shooter
  • Police K9s    
  • Use of Force
  • Traffic stops
  • Drug investigations
  • And more!

Applications can be picked up at the Sidney Police Department and must be completed and returned to Officer Bryce Stewart no later than January 23, 2024. Applications may be submitted in person, by mail or by email.

You must be a resident of Sidney/Shelby County, or be associated with a business or organization within Sidney. and must have no current criminal charges pending in court. Past criminal history may or may not disqualify you from participation based on seriousness of offense and time passing since offense. You may be disqualified to participate at the discretion of the Chief of Police.
