At 10:24 p.m. on January 29, 2022, the Sidney Department of Fire and Emergency Services was dispatched to a report of a structure fire at 1042 Apple Blossom Lane. Upon arrival, crews had a single family residence with fire showing from the front porch and vented through the roof. The occupants were outside advising all occupants were out of the house except one dog. Engine #3 crew initiated transitional fire attack from the front porch. Quint #2 crew pulled a back-up line and conducted search of division 1. The fire crews extinguished the fire and found the dog unharmed. The dog was reunited with the family. A box alarm was established for all off duty personnel to respond along with mutual aid from Anna, Lockington, and Piqua Fire Departments for assistance. Due to the cold temperatures and road conditions, the City of Sidney Street Department also responded with a salt truck.
No fire personnel were injured during the event. The fire caused heavy damage to the structure. The damage to the property is estimated at $35,000 to the structure and $15,000 to the contents. The occupants were displaced by the fire incident. Red Cross was contacted to assist the occupants.
AES (formerly DP&L), Center Point Energy (formerly Vectren) responded to the scene to control the utilities.
The fire is under investigation by the Sidney Department of Fire and Emergency Services Fire Investigation Unit.
