At 7:42 pm on November 9, 2021; the Sidney Department of Fire and Emergency Services was dispatched to a report of a structure fire at a duplex on 418 Elm Street. Upon arrival, smoke and fire was observed through the kitchen window at the rear of the structure. All occupants of 418 Elm had safely evacuated. It was reported that the occupants had attempted to control the fire prior to calling 911. Sidney Police Department aided in the safe evacuation of the residents of 420 Elm St. Fire crews initiated fire attack and extinguished the fire.
The fire caused moderate damage to the structure and was contained to 418 Elm St. No fire personnel were injured during the event. One occupant was evaluated by EMS on scene. Off-duty Sidney fire personnel were recalled. AES and CenterPoint Energy were brought to the scene to secure the utilities.
The damage to the property is estimated at $5,000 to the contents and $5,000 to the structure. The property is owned by DAB III Properties LLC. Occupants of the 418 Elm St. were displaced by the fire incident and are being assisted by family. The Sidney Department of Fire and Emergency Services Fire Investigation Unit has ruled the fire as accidental in nature.
