At 12:05 p.m. on July 27, 2021, the Sidney Department of Fire and Emergency Services was dispatched to a report of a structure fire at 1755 Riverside Drive.Upon arrival, there was smoke coming out of the eves and fire involvement on the rear of the structure. Occupants on scene advised that everyone had safely evacuated prior to the arrival of the fire department. Crews initiated a transitional fire attack from the outside and then advanced hose lines inside to complete extinguishment of the fire.
The fire caused damage to the structure and was contained to the exterior wall with extension to the attic and one bedroom. No occupants or fire personnel were injured during the event. The damage to the property, which is owned by Drew and Shavon Puckett, is estimated at $20,000 to the structure and $10,000 to the contents. The family was not displaced by the fire incident.
AES (formerly DP&L) was on scene to control the utilities. Mutual aid assistance was received from Anna, Van Buren, and Port Jefferson Fire Departments.
The Sidney Department of Fire and Emergency Services Fire Investigation Unit has ruled the fire as accidental and electrical in nature.
