The City of Sidney is proud to announce that Officer Sean Martin of the Sidney Police Department earned a gold medal at the 2025 World Police and Fire Games, held June 27 through July 6 in Birmingham, Alabama.
Officer Martin captured first place in his age division in the street cycling time trials, an event where cyclists race individually against the clock. He completed the course in an impressive 31:36.000, beating the next closest competitor by more than three minutes. Martin also placed fifth in the cycling circuit race, showcasing his versatility and skill on the international stage.
The World Police and Fire Games is an Olympic-style competition that brings together more than 8,500 first responders from over 70 countries, competing in over 60 sports across 35 venues. Known as the “Games of Heroes,” the event includes both traditional and public safety–themed competitions.
Officer Martin is no stranger to high-level competition. Since 2008, he has competed in cycling races and duathlons, and over the years, his athletic pursuits have taken him around the globe. Past competitions include events in Sarajevo, Bosnia-Herzegovina (2021); Trento, Italy (2022); Dundee, Scotland (2023); Aalborg, Denmark; and Townsville, Australia (2024).
The City of Sidney congratulates Officer Martin on this incredible achievement and for proudly representing our community on an international stage.
