The picnic shelter/game area located at Custenborder was named (1996) the “Doris Blackston Picnic Grove” in honor of Doris Blackston. Mrs. Blackston was an active member of the Sidney City Council and Sidney’s first woman mayor. She was interested in a variety of City projects. She was especially motivated to provide recreational services for senior citizens such as the shuffle board and horseshoe courts that were at one time located in Custenborder Field.
