[ARCHIVED] Storm Water Collection Annual Update

Sidney City Hall Sign

The city is responsible for 80.25 miles of known storm sewer lines, 1,313 storm sewer manholes, 3,084 storm water catch basins, nine city owned detention basins, seven non-city owned maintained detention basins and two storm water screw pump stations.

The majority of the storm sewer lines are between 12 to 36 inches; just a small portion of the lines are less than 10 inches in diameter or over 38 inches. The bulk of the storm sewer lines are constructed of vitrified clay or reinforced concrete. Other materials in service include ductile iron pipe, PVC, corrugated steel and ADS.

During 2021, 8,675 linear feet of storm sewer lines were added to the system, largely due in part of the Burr Oak subdivision development. A total of 465 storm water mains were replaced/repaired in 2021. There were over 2,200 linear feet of storm sewers camera inspected and nearly 2,600 linear feet of lines jet cleaned.

Much of the catch basin repair and replacement follows the paving and project areas where the roadway is being resurfaced; in 2021 3,116 catch basins were inspected and cleaned.

Storm Sewer capital projects include Linden/Forest Street improvement, Starrett Run improvements and engineering for drainage improvements at Emerson.
