Vehicle Pursuit

Sidney Police 1820

While on patrol, around 7:37 p.m. on November 11,  2020,  Officer Benshoff was in the area of the 300 block of E. Court St. when he observed James Baldwin driving a grey Corvette eastbound on E. Court Street. Officer Benshoff had prior knowledge that Baldwin had a suspended driver’s license, so he called in to check if he had his privileges reinstated.  Dispatch advised that Baldwin’s license was suspended and that he also had an active warrant.  Officer Benshoff attempted to pull Baldwin over, but he wouldn’t comply and continued eastbound at a high rate of speed (over 100 Mph) on SR 29 into the county.  The pursuit continued just west of Pasco and Baldwin stopped his vehicle in the 12000 block of SR 706 and tried to flee on foot.  Baldwin would not comply with Officer Benshoff’s commands and had to be tased. Baldwin continued to resist arrest while they were both on the ground and he refused to place his hands behind his back. Baldwin then attempted to take Officer Benshoff’s taser away from him but Officer Benshoff was able to regain control of the taser and he utilized it to gain control of Balwin. Officer Benshoff was able to cuff him before a back-up officer arrived.

Baldwin was examined and treated on scene by Perry-Port EMS and after being treated, he was transported to the Shelby County Jail for fleeing and eluding, resisting, and attempted assault on a Police Officer.
