Sidney Ohio Police Department

In the Investigative branch there are six detectives that handle investigative needs.  Three detectives are general assignment investigators, one detective that investigates crimes against children, and two detectives that comprise the Sidney Narcotics Task Force. The detectives working in the investigative branch are highly experienced and skilled with each having specialized training in their assignment areas.

The investigative unit handles criminal cases that are highly involved that often require time consuming & specialized follow up investigational needs.  Most follow up assignments will require the services of one detective however; a major crime event could necessitate the services of all detectives & department personnel until the investigative event is stabilized. At that point the major crime event would be scaled back to a single lead investigator.

The Investigative unit is unique from most law enforcement agencies its size in that in 2013 launched a computer forensics examination platform to which computers and cell phones can be forensically processed and examined in house instead of outsourcing.  This gives Sidney investigators the ability to obtain critical evidentiary information in an accelerated time frame.

The Sidney Narcotics Task Force is an organized unit of two detectives formed from the Sidney Police Department that are committed to fight against crimes of drug trafficking and drug abuse.  The investigators are highly trained in narcotic investigative tactics. They have joined with the Ohio State Patrol and other departments to share information and resources to help reduce the effects of drug abuse and trafficking not only in the City of Sidney but also Statewide.
