The purpose of this program is to publicly and officially recognize members of the Department of Fire & Emergency Services who distinguish themselves by performing exceptional or conspicuously outstanding acts of heroism. The program will also recognize members of the community who perform acts of heroism or otherwise perform life saving actions. Individuals or organizations whose actions benefit the operation of the Department of Fire & Emergency Services in carrying out its mission will also be recognized.

It also provides for the recognition of members who perform commendable acts which are deemed to be above and beyond those normally expected or required of Department personnel conscientious discharging their duties, and acknowledges personnel who engage in other meritorious or exemplary activities.

FIREFIGHTER OF THE YEAR

On April 10, 2017 the Firefighter of the Year for 2016 was awarded to Jordan Grogean. Jordan has been with the department for over 5 years.

A graduate of Russia Local School in Russia, OH, Jordan is a certified paramedic, and is a current member on the HazMat Team, Technical Rescue Team, and the Ohio Regional Strike 3 Team, as well as the Honor Guard. Jordan is an active member of the following committees within the department: Fire, Health & Safety, HazMat, TRT, and Pride & Ownership.

Jordan has received recognition from his supervisors on numerous occasions, specifically in January 2015 when he with other firefighters instructed an ice rescue training for various volunteer departments from surrounding counties; as well as in July 2015 for his role in executing the “hands-on” extrication experience for members of the Governor’s Community Traffic Safety Network of Shelby County. Jordan was also recognized by Piqua’s Fire Chief when he helped to instruct a Swift Water Rescue training last spring for the Piqua Fire Department.

During his career, Jordan’s supervisors have made notable remarks on his performance such as him performing above his years of experience on incidents, having a positive attitude, and his continuation to improve himself as well as the department.

Jordan and his wife Stacey have one daughter, Amelia, and reside in Russia.

FF Grogean is clearly a credit to the Department and an asset to the entire community. It is my pleasure to present the Firefighter of the Year Award to Jordan Grogean.
