In 2006, the Police Department completed their first full year of occupancy of their new 42,000 square-foot, $7.6 million, state-of-the-art facility.

Although turn over is rare, the Department fills vacancies from a Civil Service list with testing held every one to two years. In addition to a written test, the selection process consists of polygraph and psychological testing, physical examination, physical fitness capability testing, background investigation, and multiple oral interviews with Department staff and Civil Service Board members.

Current pay range for police officer rank is $42,577.60 to $54,288.00, not including $1,800 educational bonus for a minimum of a two-year degree in Criminal Justice. An educational bonus of $900.00 is offered for officers with a minimum of a bachelor's degree in any non-Criminal Justice related field. Yearly fitness testing is mandatory and a fitness bonus of from $850 - $1700 is possible.

Chief Steve Wearly, Operations Captain Mike Lundy, and Administrative Captain Rod Austin will be happy to address specific inquiries concerning operations, policies, or procedures of the Sidney Police Department.
