2008 Firefighter of the Year – Tony McLain

Tony is a certified paramedic and a member of the Fast Water Rescue. He serves as a State-certified firefighting instructor and is a member of the Rapid Intervention Team (RIT) core group and auto extrication core group. These are internal teams that identify critical skill levels and do equipment research and development for the specific area of training. During his career, Tony has been recognized four times for his professional and caring performance on an EMS call. In 2006, he received a Recognition of Exceptional Performance for his work, along with another firefighter, for extra station work and redesigning storage on a utility vehicle which resulted in improved safety for responding firefighters. In 2008, he received a Recognition of Exceptional Performance for his response, along with other members of his crew, to a house fire which resulted in a successful rescue of a child.

Tony follows in the footsteps of his father, retired firefighter Keith McLain, who received the first Firefighter of the Year Award in 1996.

Tony and wife Bridget have four boys. He is clearly a credit to the Department and an asset to the entire community.
