Shelby Public Transit is the demand-responsive, curb-to-curb public transit system in the City of Sidney and Shelby County area. The system began operation in 1980 with two vehicles and limited service within the city limits. Today, public transportation is available to everyone in Shelby County.

Our goal is to offer accessible, clean, safe, and affordable public transportation in Shelby County.

We have 14 vehicles to serve you, 13 with wheelchair lifts. Please let our dispatcher know if you have any special mobility needs so we can better serve you.

Our service is closed on New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Day, Presidents Day, Good Friday, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving,
Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day.

Rides are scheduled on a first come/
first serve—space available basis.

Reservations are taken from 8:00 a.m. till
5:00 pm. Call early to guarantee your ride.

City Service: The system offers same day, demand-responsive, curb-to-curb transit service to anywhere within approximately three (3) miles of the Sidney city limits.
County Service: Must be scheduled at least forty-eight (48) hours in advance. Advance scheduled service is available to all residents of Shelby County for trips within the County.

A personal care attendant (PCA) can ride at no charge. When scheduling your trip with the scheduler/dispatcher let them know that a PCA will be riding with you.

All rates are per person/per one-way trip

City rates:
General Public: $2.50
Seniors (Age 65 and over): 75¢
Disabled: 75¢

County rates:
General Public: $5.00
Seniors & Disabled: $2.50

No charge: Children under the age of 2.

Children under the age of 5 must be
accompanied by an adult.

HOW TO QUALIFY
FOR THE REDUCED RATE
Seniors: Show proof of age (such as drivers license) to the driver to receive your
yellow senior ID card.

Disabled: Contact our office for a form to be completed by your physician or medical provider. Upon completion of the form, come to our office to receive approval of the certification request and receive a blue ID card. Certifications must be renewed every 3 years.

CANCELLATIONS ONLY

No reservations on this line.

City Service: Cancel at least 10 minutes before your pick up time.
County Service: Cancel at least 24 hours in advance.

Trips not cancelled in this period of time will be treated as a no-show.


If you do not cancel a ride in the time required, you will be considered a No-Show. Failure to follow the cancellation policy will result in a suspension of service.

For the safety of out passengers and drivers, during adverse weather conditions, the decision may be made by management to limit the booking of rides to essential trips only. In extreme
conditions, the service may be closed. Listen to WMVR (105.5 FM) for closing information.


 

 

3 brown bags or 6 plastic bags, or 1 basket or garbage bag of laundry is included with the fare. There are additional charges for excess groceries, laundry, packages, etc.
Ask the driver or contact our scheduler for the schedule of charges.

Tokens for all service levels may be purchased for your convenience from our drivers or in our office. (They make great gifts for regular users of the service!)


Those who are hearing or speech impaired can contact us through the Ohio Relay Service. For the visually impaired, alternative formats are available. Large print brochures are available upon request.

Fares must be paid before the vehicle leaves the pickup point: No Exceptions
All passengers MUST wear seat belts.
Child restraint seats are not provided. It is the passenger’s responsibility to provide and secure the seat before departure.
No food or beverages on the vehicles
No smoking on the vehicles
Our “on-time” window is 10 minutes before to 10 minutes after your scheduled pick up time. Please be ready 10 minutes before your scheduled pick up. Drivers will only wait 3 minutes for you to board.
Please carry the correct change. Drivers
usually have no more than $5 in change
Mobility service animals are permitted on the vehicles with their owner. Pets are not permitted on our vehicles.
No package pick up or delivery service

Curb-to-Curb service is provided from the curb in front of your pick-up point to the curb in front of your destination. Passenger assistance is available upon request. Any passenger may request the use of the lift to get on or off the vehicle.
The driver will tie down all wheelchairs with a four-point tie down and secure all walkers and oxygen tanks. The driver will assist with getting the wheelchair on and off the van.

Disruptive, abusive or unruly behavior on board the vehicles is prohibited and may result in immediate termination of service. Continued or repeated misbehavior may result in suspension of service

 


   

Shelby Public Transit works in cooperation with Shelby County human services agencies and various service organizations that serve Shelby County.

Some funding provided by Title III of the Older Americans Act which is administered through the Area Agency on Aging PSA 2.

Area Agency on Aging clients may make voluntary contributions towards the cost of this Title III funded service. However, we will not deny persons service if they are unable to make a contribution.
